Six Attitude a Virtual Assistant Must Have

Updated: Mar 20, 2020

Nowadays, I observed that most of the companies were not just looking for a knowledgeable and intelligent person they wanted to belong in their team. Most of the time, they consider more of the good qualities including attitude and behavior of the person they were hiring. This is visible to those who were hired as full time office employee. But how about as being a Virtual Assistant? Do they also need to show certain attitude and behavior to their clients?Surely, YES they need to. No matter how distant your working relationship with your client, whether it is a long term or short term contract, it is still important to have a good working attitude and behavior in order to become successful not only to the company you are working with but also as a person. Below are some of the listed right attitude a Virtual Assistant must have in order to succeed in this career.

Right Attitude of a Virtual Assistant
Six Attitude a Virtual Assistant must have

1. AN ATTITUDE OF BEING RELIABLE

According to Cambridge University Press, reliability described as “the quality of being able to be trusted or believed because of working or behaving well”. Another definition described as “the quality of being trustworthy or of performing consistently well”. If you are hired as Virtual Assistant that means that your client from the very beginning, the hiring process, put his trust in you already. During the interview, he may saw something in you that he can trust upon, thus this should not be taken for granted. It is also important that from the beginning before you apply as Virtual Assistant, you must include or state this in your Mission or Vision as Virtual Assistant so your client may see that you are serious in your advocacy.

2. CONFIDENCE

Basic knowledge and skills gives you an edge compared to those who have nothing or no experience at all as Virtual Assistant. And that gives you more confidence about your work. Get training and have an initiative to learn more. Do not limit yourself into learning new things. Learn to work away from your comfort zone. As trained Virtual Assistant and sculptured by Filipino Virtual Academy ,I knew it then that the training is tedious and required lot of my time and commitment, however, it pays a lot more than what I have expected because it builds my confidence.I also acquired a lot of things that are new to me and never knew that it exists.

3. BEING PATIENT / EMPATHETIC

In any form of work, these quality is equaled to nothing. We Filipinos are known for these kind of trait and it is unusual for us to give up easily. We are use to work under pressure and that is because of our endurance and patience. Thus, if we don’t have this attitude then we can not be successful in every endeavor. And working as Virtual Assistant requires a lot of patience considering the fact that we are working with clients having different cultures and preferences.

4. GOOD COMMUNICATION SKILL

It is a skill actually but sometimes it conveys more of the attitude of a person. Our clients would be able to see if we are true to what we say through the way we communicate with them. A good communication skill gives a sense of trust between you and your client. Learn to tell the truth and never lie to your client. It is still better to build a good rapport with them through proper communication.

5. KIND AND FRIENDLY

Who would not want a kind and friendly employee? Having a good rapport with your clients will take you further than you could imagine. Be kind and stay positive always, no matter how the client acts. When you’re positive and uplifting, you show confidence in the midst of their crisis, which will gain you their respect.

6.PASSION AND LOVE FOR WORK

Yes, never forget this quality because it will bring you to success no matter what the circumstances are. You must put passion and love on what you are doing because your clients may sense it if you love what you are doing. Do not just work for the money but go an extra mile. Do not just stick to what the clients required you to do but make them feel that this is more than just a job for you.

Being a Virtual Assistant is not that an easy task. Because like any other job whether as full time office personnel or not, right attitude and good qualities are still a must in the workplace. You can not reach your destination and become successful in everything if you neglect to have the basic. However, if you possess the qualities cited above then you're on your way to the top of this career.
